I am Mrs. Hilary Powell and in my position of headteacher I am delighted to welcome you to Elmhurst Junior School.
I was appointed as Headteacher in September 2005 and I came to the school from Richmond Upon Thames where I had worked for 27 years, with the last 12 years as Deputy Headteacher and SENCO of a large junior school.
My links with Street go back to the Second World War when my mother was evacuated to Street from Dagenham and her school shared the Elmhurst school building with the then Elmhurst Grammar School.
Since joining the school I have helped the school prepare for its OFSTED inspection (May 2009). This graded us as a ”GOOD” school and recognised the children’s behaviour and enjoyment of education as outstanding. We were very proud of the inspection and are using it as a starting point for further improvements.
