PARENTS - HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We firmly believe that the more closely parents are actively involved in their child’s education the greater that child’s chances of success will be.
Regular reading to and with your child is vital, especially in the earlier years but not exclusively. Simply sharing a book for a few minutes each day will have a markedly positive impact on their confidence and learning. High self-esteem is a prime factor in success and you can help greatly here by emphasising all the positive features of school, praising progress however small and finding the time to chat about what they are doing.
Homework will be a feature of school life and any parent wishing to view the current policy is more than welcome to do so. Briefly, you can expect the amount of homework given to increase through the school and range from an average of one hour a week spent reading, learning spellings etc in Key Stage One through to more sustained [averaging 30 minutes daily] work in the areas of English, Maths and Topic studies by the time they are in Year 6.
